Rigby Cooke Lawyers has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Senior Financial Associate to become a valued member of our Finance team. In this role, you’ll work alongside our Head of Finance in a collaborative and flexible working environment to own credit control processes and shape strategic financial direction.

The position - duties, responsibilities and qualifications

Credit control

  • Oversee credit control processes and proactively reduce debtors.
  • Negotiate payment deadlines or payment plans.
  • Provide documentation, such as invoices, to debtors in relation to their accounts as and when requested.
  • Liaise and interact with lawyers regularly regarding client queries, statements and problem debtors.
  • Allocation and reconciliation of payments to customer accounts.
  • Document the progress on collection efforts (e-mail trails, file notes from phone calls) and produce reports as required, including aged debtors’ reports.
  • Escalate any issues regarding debtors to the Head of Finance.
  • Preparation of solicitors’ audit letters for clients.
  • Keeping track of client debtor files sent to litigation for collection.
  • Sending letters of demand to non-fee-paying debtors.

Finance and accounting 

  • Preparation of the firm’s bank reconciliations, including processing of all receipts and payments.
  • Oversee the processing of accounting transactions and accounts payable.
  • Conduct reconciliation of ledgers.
  • Prepare budgets, cash flow forecasts, and financial reports for internal stakeholders.
  • Manage reporting on billable hours and utilisation targets.
  • Preparation & review of balance sheet reconciliations, monthly prepayments, depreciation schedules, and accruals.
  • Manage billing queries.
  • Support financial planning and cost management for office leases, business insurance, and recurring service subscriptions.
  • Assist the Head of Finance and wider Finance team when required, including providing support during periods of annual or sick leave.
  • Maintain compliance with regulations including PAYG, superannuation, complete and submit business activity statements (BAS), WorkCover remuneration returns and payroll tax returns.

Qualifications, experience and skills required

  • Strong background and experience in credit control.
  • Problem-solving skills to handle financial issues and irregularities.
  • Bookkeeping and accounting experience.
  • Proficient in financial reporting.
  • Experience with financial software/systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • Prior experience in legal or professional services (preferred).
  • A qualification in accounting, finance, commerce, or a related field (preferred).
