The legal life – meet Stephanie Shahine

18 January 2021

Stephanie is an Associate in our Workplace Relations group.

Stephanie shares her favourite holiday destinations, advice for lawyers just starting out and why she chose to pursue law.

Favourite holiday spot?

It is far too difficult to pick just one. For food and art, Florence, Italy. For a relaxing beach holiday along with history and culture, Crete, Greece.

Last good book, podcast or film?

The Trial of the Chicago 7. A fascinating and historically accurate courtroom drama retelling the story of the prosecution of seven defendants who lead the 1968 protests at the Democratic National Convention regarding the Vietnam War.

Why did you choose law and your practice area?

I initially wanted to become a ballet dancer, but at the age of six, I decided that I was more suited to a career in the law! I developed an affinity for employment law throughout the course of my studies as I personally found this to be a dynamic and interesting practice area.

What is the best piece of advice you can give lawyers starting out today?

Be open to all opportunities that may come your way, including non-practising roles. After finishing my studies, my first role was at the Fair Work Commission which lay the foundation for my employment and industrial knowledge.

What are you looking forward to?

At the moment I’m looking forward to a safe, healthy and relatively normal 2021. As I’ve been working remotely to date, I’m also looking forward to meeting some of my fellow team members in person!

What do you enjoy most about working with your clients?

I enjoy seeking practical solutions for clients and helping them to navigate through complex legal issues.
