The legal life – meet Christos Bouras

03 December 2020

Christos is a Senior Associate in our Litigation & Dispute Resolution group.

How do you unwind?

I am a family man, so I tend to unwind by cooking for my family and spending time with my partner and our children. I am a strong believer in meditation and taking time to look after your mental health in whatever way works for you. As a passion project, I am writing a fiction book based on Ancient Greek mythology.

What is an interesting fact about yourself?

During my teenage years and my early 20’s, I spent a lot of my free time with my grandparents on both sides of my family learning Greek, our cultural customs and, importantly, how to cook Greek food. For example, we make our own sausages, Greek yoghurt, and phyllo pastry. Now that our grandparents have passed, I keep the traditions alive for my own children and our extended family.

What have been some of the challenges you faced early on in your career, how did you overcome them?

I was the first in my family to complete high school and go to university. So, it was difficult for me to initially understand the culture of the legal profession. I was fortunate that over the years I have had the privilege of working for excellent mentors who, each in their own way, assisted me in finding my place in the legal profession.

What is the best piece of advice you can give lawyers starting out today?

The best piece of advice I can give is to stay true to your values and align those values with whatever your role is within the legal profession. It is also important, in my view, to keep learning as much as you can – you can’t know everything, but you can find the answers.

What do you think sets Rigby Cooke Lawyers apart from other firms?

Rigby Cooke is not only a very professional legal firm but I feel that the people I work with are more akin to family and friends rather than simply work colleagues.

What do you enjoy most about working with your clients?

I enjoy learning about the various businesses that our clients operate and the real-world implications arising from their legal disputes. More importantly, I take satisfaction in resolving our client’s disputes, so they can get on with their lives whether that be personal or commercial.
