Elise Jasper is a Lawyer in our Workplace Relations team.

Elise shares her best advice for lawyers starting out and some interesting facts about herself.

How do you unwind?

I enjoy swimming, especially in the ocean. I find it a relaxing and enjoyable way to wind down, get some exercise and enjoy nature.

What is an interesting fact about yourself?

I can speak Italian. I am not Italian myself, but learned the language at school and university, and I keep it up by talking with my Italian neighbours.

Why did you choose law and your practice area?

I chose law because I enjoy the challenge of navigating legal obligations and frameworks and advising on practical solutions. I particularly enjoy employment law as all the legal issues have a human aspect; the issues affect employees and the broader operation of a workplace.

What is the best piece of advice you can give lawyers starting out today?

Ask plenty of questions of more experienced lawyers, not only to understand legal issues, but also to understand and learn from their perspective and what drives them in their work. I’ve found that listening to the perspectives of other lawyers has helped me work out what drives me and why.

What do you think sets Rigby Cooke Lawyers apart from other firms?

Lawyers at Rigby Cooke have a genuine interest in sharing knowledge and insight within the firm. There is no internal competition. Lawyers here have a great way of recognising the expertise of other lawyers and working together to make the most of their joint specialities to serve clients.

What do you enjoy most about working with your clients?

I enjoy using my understanding of employment law to explain legal concepts simply to clients and resolve issues. Often when employment issues arise, employers lose time away from managing their core operations to deal with those issues. I derive great satisfaction from assisting employers understand their legal obligations and resolve issues promptly so they can then concentrate on their core business.
