Professional biography:
Theo Kalyvas commenced as a partner of the firm on 1 July 2007. He has practised in the construction and engineering area for over 12 years, and his clients have included government and government instrumentalities, public and private corporations, unlisted trusts, international and national construction and engineering firms.
Theo is experienced in:
- drafting and negotiating major construction contracts and development documentation
- contract negotiation and risk allocation
- construction financing documentation
- disputes and dispute resolution covering all aspects of construction and engineering law issues, including advising on insurance aspects of construction related matters
- security of payment, having presented seminars on the topic on many occasions
- advising participants on major construction and engineering projects, including administration and claims procedures
Significant experience:
- Currently advising a national contractor on contractual entitlements regarding claims for cost, prolongation and variations ($50 million)
- Current advisor to iconic AFL sporting club on redevelopment ($25 million)
- Advising major national housing group on contractual claims, claims procedures and disputes
- Advisor to and representing major bank investment trust on numerous commercial transactions, and representation in disputes
- Advisor to project inspector on the BassLink hydro infrastructure project (project cost in excess of $780 million)
- Advisor to consulting engineers on the North South By-pass PPP project
- Lead lawyer for superannuation fund in the redevelopment of prime CBD site (project cost exceeding $250 million)
- Advisor to publicly listed company involving and refurbishment of a significant shopping centre complex ($10 million)
