Professional biography:
As Managing Partner of Rigby Cooke, Philip plays a central role in the strategic planning and management of the firm. He has been extensively involved in law firm management since 1985. In addition to his key responsibilities for business development and human resources, Philip coordinates the firm’s group structures to ensure that it brings the best resources to each area of its practice.
Philip has over 25 years experience in insurance, commercial litigation, insolvency and building litigation. He is a member of our Litigation group, and advises both public and private sector organisations. He has acted for some of Australia’s leading insurance companies, and has represented clients from the transport, manufacturing, property, telecommunications and finance industries.
Significant experience:
- Acted for major underwriters and insurers for over 25 years in every facet of insurance law, including marine, public and products liability, personal injury, motor vehicle property damage defence and recovery actions, arson/fire, jewellery, household burglary, livestock/equine, Industrial Special Risks, and complex claims involving indemnity/policy disputes, fraud, misrepresentation and non-disclosure
- Represented a UK underwriter in a significant salvage recovery claim by an Australian port authority
- Advised a major insurer on policy indemnity issues arising from claims in relation to Legionnaire’s Disease
- Advised an overseas manufacturer of equipment for the Roxby Downs project on its contractual obligations and product liability issues
- Advised various liquidators upon major preference actions
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Jurisprudence and Bachelor of Laws – Monash University
